A Classic Cottage, Timeless and Warm in Peapack-Gladstone

Wood-plank paneling on walls, warm wooden flooring and engaging spaces are among the elements capturing the cottage lifestyle we’ve grown to love and admire. They are casual yet elegant, and the décor, whether its historically driven or nostalgically crafted, is always personal.

With origins to the 1800s, this charming cottage was extended in 1989 to include the 11 spacious rooms one sees today. Set high on the terrain, privacy envelops the 4.32 acres overlooking the adjacent neighborhood. Large lawns, mature trees and extensive landscaping infused with perennial gardens enchant. A summer porch, pergola-covered patios and azure-water pool are stages to the picturesque serenity. Indoors, pegged variable-width oak floors, three fireplaces, carved-panel walls, period-décor baths and knotty-pine library heighten the cottage allure.  Expansive windows draw the outdoors in.

A skylight, cream-hued cabinetry and light-hued oak flooring brighten the spacious kitchen. The appliances are by Dacor, Sub-Zero and Bosch. In the sizeable breakfast room, dining takes place by an extended window wall with French doors opening to a pergola covered deck. A wood-burning stone fireplace anchors the former’s transition to the family room where paneled walls, bookcase cabinetry and alcove-tucked wet bar give a nod to relaxed comfort.

In the first level master suite, light sources include a distinguishing, soaring cupola inset with windows. The dressing room includes a fitted walk-in closet and a raised-barrel ceiling hovers over contrasting cobalt blue and white décor in the luxurious bath. Take the steps up to glass double doors opening to the private deck with firepit and another opportunity to enjoy the home’s glorious setting. Three additional bedrooms and two full baths (including an en suite) are located on the upper level. The walk-out lower level hosts the 5th bedroom with en suite bath, a wine cellar, exercise room and laundry room.

A two-car garage is attached to the residence by a breezeway and another is aside one of the property’s two entrances.    Its Norman Rockwell charm, pristine landscape and prime location are regular draws for Peapack-Gladstone. Newcomers easily take to its serene beauty and casual lifestyle. Residents are quick to relate that their town has a captivating hold. And getting to and from is easy. Major highways and NJ Transit trains provide easy access to corporate centers, Manhattan and the area’s commuter and international airports.

About Peapack-Gladstone

What happens when two villages are combined in one borough? The answer is Peapack-Gladstone, which is sometimes called the Twin Borough. Incorporated in 1912, two distinct villages are located in the northern part of Somerset County. Peapack is the southernmost village and Gladstone is the northern one. Both have a small shopping district, train station, post office, houses of worship, and homes in and around their Main Streets.

The two downtown areas are old fashioned and picturesque. Many homes lining Main Street, from stately Victorians to charming cottages or classic capes, feature well-tended green lawns and blooming flower gardens. Liberty Park has a small pond with fountains and picnic tables, and there’s a playground across the street. Concerts in the park and community events attract all ages in the warm weather. The trout-stocked Peapack Brook meanders through town, eventually joining the North Branch of the Raritan River.
