Mountain Top Estates, A Coveted Basking Ridge Neighborhood

Come home to Mountain Top Estates one of Basking Ridge’s finest addresses. A mature estate enclave, residents are offered an ideal balance of desirable neighborhood, privacy and proximity to shopping, highways, Midtown Direct train and award-winning schools.

Set among homes of distinction and grand proportions, 2.13 park-like grounds provide the setting for the 14-room residence totaling approximately 8677 sq. ft.  Tall trees, manicured lawns and gardens of color and texture provide the stage for the custom home’s impressive cul-de-sac site.

Indoors, wonderful entertaining spaces and luxurious private areas continue the community’s prestigious allure. The white marble floor dazzles in the two-story foyer with staircase gracefully sweeping to the upper gallery. Classic moldings frame high ceilings, windows and room entries. Ceilings, skylights, French doors and expansive windows add architectural intrigue. Oak floors prevail. The living room hosts one of the home’s three fireplaces. French doors open the space to the bright, tall conservatory. The dining room is grandly appointed with artful ceiling, wainscoting, window bank and duplicates the living room’s herringbone patterned floor. Oak paneling and bookcase cabinetry sheath the library. The large, bright breakfast room with skylights, window surround, and side bar accompanies the well-applianced kitchen hosting off-white cabinetry and a sizeable island with breakfast bar. In the two-story family room, room-height windows flank the fireplace, a wet bar resides, and French doors open to the grounds, bluestone patio with kitchen and heated salt water pool.

Also located on the main level, the master suite echoes the home’s generously sized dimensions. A tray ceiling hovers in the bedroom. Walk-in closets are wonderfully spacious and Verde marble abounds in the luxurious bath.

Upstairs, railing surrounds the open gallery and a triple window offers yet another view to the lush grounds. Secondary bedrooms include three en suites plus two with connecting baths . This level also features an immense bonus room spanning the home’s front to back.

Among the utilities and mechanicals providing year-round comfort are multi-zone heating and cooling, 75-gallon hot water heater, Generac generator, central vacuum, water conditioning and sound system. The home also boasts a four-car garage.

Bernards Twp. (Basking Ridge), NJ real estate market

Basking Ridge in Bernards Township has retained its small-town charm for over 200 years. Most of the shops, restaurants, and services along tree-lined South Finley Avenue are located in historic 19th-century houses. In fact, the downtown area has so much history that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Bernards Township was originally formed by Royal Charter as Bernardston Township. The name Bernards Township was given to the area in 1760 by King George II to honor Sir Francis Bernard, Provincial Governor of New Jersey from 1758 to 1760. It was incorporated as Bernards Township in 1798. Basking Ridge, Liberty Corner, Lyons, and West Millington are located within Bernards Township, while Martinsville is split between Bernards and Bridgewater Townships.

Even though maps indicate that Basking Ridge is a small commercial district in the northeast section of Bernards, about 95% of the township is referred to as Basking Ridge and has a Basking Ridge postal address. The only major parts of Bernards that do not have Basking Ridge addresses are the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lyons and Liberty Corner, a small historic district in the southern portion of the township.

The Bernards Township municipal building on Collyer Lane is housed in a circa 1912 brick Tudor mansion detailed with French pocket doors, maple and mahogany paneling, and marble fireplaces. The house and its 28 acres were sold to the township by John Jacob Astor VI for $140,000 in 1968.
